SPL are retained by Hammerson Plc to provide planning advice in respect of The Oracle Shopping Centre in Reading. As part of that ongoing instruction, SPL have recently secured consent for a new restaurant unit for CAU, who are part of the Gaucho Group.
The application site was constrained, adjacent a canalised river and overlooked by apartments. Working closely with Architects, Benoy, a scheme was developed that met Hammerson’s objective to deliver an aspirational, London quality design as well as CAU’s operational requirements. It also addressed concerns of Officers and Members at Reading Borough Council, notably the potential impact on residential amenity and loss of public art. A Jason Bruges light installation formed an integral part of the proposal.
In order to meet a tight programme in terms of construction/delivery, SPL successfully negotiated a planning consent that was free from any pre-commencement conditions.
