Alex is an experienced Chartered Town Planner with over 10 years post qualification experience gained working in both the public and private sector.

He is currently heading up Simply Planning’s Cardiff Office, having worked in Wales and the South West for the last five years. His background of managing and leading teams in Wales and England has provided him with a strong background in Planning legislation and process.

He puts this knowledge to use to provide strategic planning advice to clients to ensure the planning process is kept as simple and efficient as possible. In addition, he has worked with a number of major landholders to promote land for allocation through the Development Plan process.

With a vast experience of working with housebuilders and affordable housing providers, Alex has secured multiple residential permissions in all areas of the country. His experience also extends to working alongside developers and private individuals on other schemes, which have included retail, tourism, leisure, renewable energy and student accommodation uses, amongst others. 

His knowledge also extends to Planning Enforcement work, where Alex has submitted numerous Enforcement Appeals and has been successful in getting Enforcement Notices withdrawn by the Local Planning Authority.

Alex has managed the Planning process in both public and private sector roles, which means he is able to achieve planning consent for a proposal in the most effective way possible.

Alex is a consummate professional with a love for all areas of sport, especially getting out on his bike around the roads of South Wales.

Projects

Steynton – Residential Development

Providing Planning Advice and project management of a Planning Application for a residential development of 60 dwellings, including a viability challenge to reduce the required affordable housing and planning obligations.

Lampeter – Affordable Housing Development

Preparation and Project Management of an Appeal against the Refusal of Planning Permission for 20 affordable dwellings on behalf of a commercial developer and affordable housing provider. The appeal was allowed with costs recovered for the client against the Local Planning Authority 

Vale of Glamorgan – Restaurant Development 

Provision of strategic planning advice and preparation and submission of applications for Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent. The development sought the renovation of a Grade II Listed public convenience to create 4 x restaurant units in a beachfront location.

Gileston – Tourism Development

The provision of planning advice against enforcement action and preparation and submission of applications for Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent. Retrospective Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent was secured for a private individual for the retention of a wedding and conference venue at the site.

Cardiff – Renewable Energy Development

Preparation and submission of application for an EIA development for a combined heat and power station and low carbon industrial units.
